Alpha's Tamper-Resistant Prescription Pads Meet Medicaid Requirements

CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) recently released guidance to State Medicaid agencies in regards to Federal legislation requiring use of tamper-resistant prescription pads. The law is intended to reduce occurrences of fraudulent and counterfeit prescriptions.

Effective April 1, 2008, a tamper-resistant Prescription Pad must contain at least one of the following:

*One or more industry-recognized features designed to prevent unauthorized copying of a completed or blank prescription form:

• Alpha - Heat sensitive thermochromic ink on tamper-resistant Rx pads (Security ink disappears with; verifies original document)
• Alpha - void pantograph on tamper-resistant RX pads Security 'void' pattern when copied; protects against duplication
   

*One or more industry-recognized features designed to prevent the erasure or modification of information written on the prescription by the prescriber.

• Alpha - chemical protection paper on tamper-resistant Rx pads Reveals chemical attempts to alter; protects against removal of information
   

• Alpha - Micro Print on tamper-resistant Rx pads Security pattern of 'original document' when magnified; verifies original document
